LANSING, Mich. — New legislation introduced by Michigan Democrats seeks to make it a felony to own weapons defined as assault weapons.
State Rep. Robert Wittenberg, D-Oak Park, presented the bill Wednesday with support from Rep. Jim Townsend, D – Royal Oak. Neither was available to make a comment.
If passed, House Bill 5996, or the “Assault Weapon Regulation Act,” would turn the manufacturing, purchasing, possessing, selling and transferring of “assault weapons” into a four-year felony. It’s one of nine bills introduced Wednesday aimed at reducing gun violence.
But gun advocates tell FOX 17 they believe it’s a political stunt.
“We’re 22 months into a 24-month legislative session,” said Tom Lambert, a gun advocate for Michigan Open Carry. “I think it’s, what, three weeks till the election? I think everyone can piece together why they are suddenly coming out right now.”…. [read more]
Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, took to the airwaves on Sunday to blast efforts by Senate Democrats to pass new gun-control legislation following last week’s terror massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, arguing Democrats need to “leave the good guys alone,” while urging Americans to arm themselves because radical Islamists are “on the verge of overwhelming us.”
“What we’re doing with this debate on the Hill right now, it’s like they’re trying to stop a freight train with a piece of Kleenex,” LaPierre said on CBS’ “Face The Nation.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., agreed to allow votes Monday on gun-control proposals after Democrats, led by Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., successfully waged a filibuster last week to force debate on the issue.
“It’s all being politicized with a politically correct White House’s nose and fingers in areas they don’t belong,” said LaPierre….. [read more]
On the tail of the brutal terror attack by a radical Islamist on an Orlando nightclub, music magazine Rolling Stone is now calling for an end to the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.
Rolling Stone Columnist David S. Cohen, who is an associate professor at the Drexel University School of Law and claims to teach the Constitution “for a living,” insisted in his June 14 article titled, “Why It’s Time to Repeal the Second Amendment,” that “the Founders and the Constitution are wrong” about the Second Amendment. “We need to say loud and clear: The Second Amendment must be repealed,” he added.
“As much as we have a culture of reverence for the founding generation, it’s important to understand that they got it wrong — and got it wrong often,” Cohen explained….. [read more]
In the aftermath of the Orlando terrorist attack, President Barack Obama today called on Congress to reinstate the assault weapons ban as well as pass legislation to make it harder for suspected terrorists to obtain firearms.
The president said there are a number of “common sense” gun control measures that Congress should take to reduce gun violence without violating the Second Amendment, and for the first time since the deadly shooting Sunday, he enumerated several steps he wants Congress to take.
“People with possible ties to terrorism who are not allowed on a plane shouldn’t be allowed to buy a gun,” Obama said, referring to “no fly, no buy” legislation pending on Capitol Hill that would prevent any suspected terrorists on no-fly lists from buying firearms.
“Reinstate the assault weapons plan,” he added. “Make it harder for terrorists to use these weapons to kill us.”…. [read more]
LHWM Notes: Obama has lied from the beginning, and does not care about our safety nor the truth. He wants America to fall and has proven this by the actions he has taken. He wants all our guns, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of life and much more. He does not serve the True Living Lord God, because he does not believe in Jesus. So if he does not believe in Jesus then who is he serving?
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
A federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled Thursday that people do not have a Second Amendment right to carry concealed weapons in public, in a sweeping decision likely to be challenged by gun-rights advocates.
An 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued the 7-4 ruling, upholding a state law requiring applicants to show “good cause,” such as a fear of personal safety, to carry a concealed firearm.
The judges, further, definitively dismissed the argument that a right to carry a concealed weapon was contained in the Second Amendment.
“We hold that the Second Amendment does not preserve or protect a right of a member of the general public to carry concealed firearms in public,” Judge William Fletcher wrote in the majority opinion.
If challenged, it could set up a Supreme Court battle…. [read more]
