The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has declared a state of emergency In response to the continuing drought Thursday evening.
TEMA Director Patrick Sheehan pointed to the drought’s impact on over 300 water systems, 6,000 acres burned in wildfires and weather forecasts that are not showing any significant precipitation in Tennessee through the remainder of 2016.
“The State of Emergency will allow TEMA to engage personnel and resources from our State and Federal partners to be sure we are in a position to respond effectively and quickly to protect lives and property from what is emerging as a prolonged drought and wildfire threat in Tennessee,” Sheehan said in a news release…. Gov. Scott Walker declared a state of emergency Thursday due to elevated wildfire conditions across the state. MADISON — Gov. Scott Walker has declared a state of emergency due to elevated wildfire conditions across the state.
Walker issued an executive order declaring an emergency Thursday. The order calls on all state agencies to help as they can with wildfire response and recovery efforts and allows Wisconsin National Guard leaders to activate units as necessary to help.
According to the order, the state has been experiencing abnormally dry conditions with high winds, low humidity and drought conditions. A new website the state Department of Natural Resources has developed for tracking wildfires in real time showed two fires on Thursday. One was in northwestern Portage County. The other was in southern Waushara County….
A recent study by NASA has determined that the recent 14-year drought in Israel was the worst in 900 years, and that it may have been man-made. Even more disturbing are conjectures that it may have been a leading factor in the devastating outbreak of civil war in Syria that has led to over 300,000 deaths and the exodus of millions.
The study was led by Ben Cook, a climate scientist at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University in New York City.
