Anger is common to man. Everyone has anger. However, anger does not stand alone there are other emotions involved. So how did man become godless, full of doubt, fear, insecurity, and anger? The world blames parents, environment, life issues, and so on. The truth is everyone is born knowing how to pitch fits.
Adam and Eve lived in a perfect environment. There was no sin, which means they did not deal with what we deal with today. But when put to the test they failed and they began to feel emotions connected to sin.
In Genesis 3:4 “You certainly won’t die!” the snake told the woman. 5 “God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened. You’ll be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 The woman saw that the tree had fruit that was good to eat, nice to look at, and desirable for making someone wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it….. [read more]
The city of Pergamum was the center for pagan religions and worship to Caesar and other gods. The first temple for Caesar was built in Pergamum. Pergamum was the capital to worship Caesar. This means in Pergamum the people were required to worship Caesar everyday, while in other cities the people were only required to show worship to Caesar once a year. Jesus calls Pergamum the “throne of Satan” and this is where Satan dominated and ruled. This made Pergamum a dangerous and oppressive place to be as a Christian.
Once someone became a believer in Jesus Christ then going to the temples to worship other gods to engage in religious rituals, which consisted of sexual orgies, was no longer the lifestyle they wanted live. Their life was given to the One True God and His holy way of living. A Christian would no longer fit in and was thought to be a traitor to Rome and Caesar. Being a Christian in Pergamum cost…. Persecution, torture, and imprisonment based only on a person’s faith in Jesus Christ is very active today just like in the time of the church in Smyrna. Jesus through John wrote an encouraging word to the Smyrna church and to all Christians who are threatened, in persecution and/or facing death for their faith. He starts by telling them I was dead and I came to life. He is reassuring those facing death for their faith in Him, your Redeemer lives. Death will not separate you from Me, you are promised eternal life through Me.
THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN SMYRNA
Smyrna was a wealthy and prosperous city, and the people living there had jobs, wealth, possessions, and they worshiped many pagan gods. They loved Rome, Rome loved them, and Caesar was declared god. For some all of this was about to change. The gospel of Jesus Christ came and was being preached in Smyrna. Not everyone agreed with what was being said especially the part about worshipping other gods. As the message of Christ continued a few of the people received Jesus Christ into their hearts. Now their loyalty was to another God, a living God, One who had sacrificed for them and gave them a secure hope for their future. But accepting this God came with a price. According to the other people they were seen as traitors and a threat to the godship of Caesar. They began to lose their place, position, job, and material possessions until they became poor. They went from having more than enough to living day by day….. [read more]
The church in Smyrna was under great affliction. The Christians in Smyrna were killed in masses because of their faith. The ones who refused to bow before Caesar and declare him god were killed. Today we see this same attitude and violence against those who will not renounce Christ and submit to another god. When it comes to persecution based on faith no one is safe, not the young or the old.
Where Was Jesus And What Did He Do
Jesus has a letter of encouragement sent to them. Jesus wanted them and those today under severe trials to know He is there with them and He sees all. He tells them I am the First and the Last….. [read more]
God wants His children to be happy, because as a child of God through Christ we are to enjoy life, and our life is to be full. In John 10:10 …… I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
John 10:10 tells us that we are to enjoy life, however there is another part to this scripture. It also says “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy”. This can immediately suck the JOY out of your life!!
Who is the thief?
Have you lost your first love is a bible study on how our life got so off track with the Lord. Maybe your life was never about God or maybe you just don’t believe. Enjoy and share, thank you.
Is your heart hurting because you are recognizing you have left your first love? Has the Lord burden your heart to come to back to Him! How do you go back to your first love. Let’s begin with leaving your first love.
DID YOU LEAVE YOUR FIRST LOVE
Has God told you that you have left your first love? How did this happen? It is happening because
1. we are in the last days
2. we choose ourselves first instead of God, whatever that may be
3. maybe you are surrounded by people who are lovers of self?
4. the list could go on and on, but the main reason is we did not choose God first no matter what the situation, moment, decision, action etc.
It is very easy to replace Jesus with the world life and not know you are doing this because this life is normal and is the way of society in America. What does scripture say about the last days? 2 Timothy 3:1-7
