DISCIPLESHIP FOR HINDU BACKGROUND BELIEVERS

Life is difficult for Hindu Background Believers (HBBs) in Indonesia. OD field workers had heard of a group of HBB converts who were banished from the community after turning to Christ. Once banished, they automatically lose all inheritance rights to the family house or land, even rights to be buried in the community’s cemetery. They will, instead, be considered a nuisance.

The OD team met a couple who became believers during their visit two years previously. These believers shared, “We were expelled by our family because of our faith in Christ.” They now live under the care of a lay leader, being discipled in their faith and empowered economically to earn a living…. read more

Young Christian Girl Forced to Pray Muslim Prayer, Told to Forget Jesus to Pass Class in Philippines

A young Christian schoolgirl in the Philippines recalled how teachers forced her to pray a Muslim prayer in order to pass a class, and ignored her explanations that she now prays to Jesus instead.

Persecution watchdog group Open Doors USA said on Wednesday that the Christian girl, Jen-Jen, had been attending a Vocational Bible School in the southernmost region of the Philippines, where she learned Bible stories and listened to the pastor’s teachings on salvation and Christ.

At her regular school, however, she described how authority figures looked down on her faith and forced her to go against it.

“Although she performed well in nearly every subject, for instance, Jen-Jen encountered pressure in Arabic class where the teacher required students to memorize a Muslim prayer in order to pass,” Open Doors reported…. read more

Skori said it would be inappropriate for the school to share "any teachings that denigrate or vilify someone's sexual orientation."Cornerstone Christian Academy in Alberta, Canada, is being told to stop teaching Scriptures that may be considered offensive.

Battle River School Division (BRSD) chair, Lauri Skori, told Cornerstone’s chair, Deanna Margel, that “any Scripture that could be considered offensive to particular individuals should not be read or studied in school.”

Skori said it would be inappropriate for the school to share “any teachings that denigrate or vilify someone’s sexual orientation.”

“We’re talking about freedom of religion, but we’re also talking about freedom of expression,” said Margel. “We need every single word there to challenge us, to call us to greater understanding. It’s just so important.”…. read more

Can We Know When Jesus Will Return? – by Britt Gillette

Can we know when Jesus will return? No. When it comes to the exact timing of His return, we can’t know. Jesus Himself said “no man knows the day or the hour of my return, not even myself. Only my Father in heaven knows” (Mark 13:32). Jesus reiterated this concept when He said He would come like a thief in the night “when least expected” (Matthew 24:43-44).

This idea, coupled with the statement “no one can know the day or the hour” of His return, has led many Christians to believe they can’t know anything about the timing of His return. After all, if Jesus comes like a thief in the night when least expected, how could you know when He’s coming?

That’s a good question. And while it’s true we can’t know the day or the hour, the idea no one has a clue as to whether it’s tomorrow or a 1,000 years from now is just plain wrong. The Bible is clear we can know the general “season” of His return… read more

American Runs Through ISIS Gunfire To Save Little Girl In Mosul

Aid worker and former U.S. special forces soldier David Eubank, 56, was captured on video heroically saving a young girl in Mosul, Iraq, by running through ISIS gunfire.

Eubank made the brave decision to run though the gunfire after he spotted what appeared to be two live children among a heap of civilians murdered by ISIS snipers.

“There was a woman sprawled on her face. Dead,” said Eubank. “A baby, all shot up. Dead. Near them, two old people. Dead. And then you realize all those lumps of rags were kids. Dead dead dead.”

“Then, in the distance, Eubank noticed movement among a group of corpses clustered before a wall pocked by bullets: A half-naked toddler stumbled over the bodies; a girl of about 5 peeked from under the hijab of her dead mother; propped up against the wall, a wounded man waved for help,” explains the LA Times… read more
